Allowing Ourselves Peace |
| Posted on Nov 16 2011 |
I have had the misfortune in the last week or so of having been forced into a situation where I have been able to do nothing but read and wait. My partner had an operation and I had to spend the whole day and evening waiting in a hospital. I was too far from home to just pop home and get on with chores.
So I waited, and I read, and I waited some more, and I tried to meditate quietly with my eyes shut – and I waited…
And it was so difficult to do. We are so used to getting on with things in our day to day lives – work, household chores, social media on the PC that it is so difficult to just sit and be and enjoy some peace.
Now I’m not suggesting we should spend a whole day doing nothing (and certainly not in a hospital waiting area). But if you can spare just a few minutes to stop whatever it is you are doing or worrying about and just take a few minutes peace and quiet then you might be surprised at how much more energy and enthusiasm you have to get on with everything afterwards.
Stress is basically a constant rush of adrenaline in our bodies – something that should really only happen occasionally when we are in danger. We really do need the time to stop and allow that adrenaline to clear – to allow our bodies and minds to recover.
So please look for a quiet peaceful few minutes for yourself today and just breathe slowly and calmly as you enjoy a wonderful gift to yourself.
