Can We Choose To Be Happy Pt 2

Last week I wrote about how, to a certain extent, we can choose how we want to feel - and looked at a simple technique we can use to raise our own happiness levels - The Three Gifts.
Here are a couple of other really simple techniques, which when used regularly can really increase our good mood and help to shift our focus away from the negative things that are so easy to find in our modern lives.


The first one is similar to last week's technique and is called The Three Thank Yous.   This one is about finding 3 things each day that you can say thank you for - and really mean it.   So the everyday "pleases" and "thank yous" that slip so easily from our lips don't count for this one.   These are opportunities to say thank you for things that other people do for you.   To make it really powerful make sure you make eye contact with them and say thank you in person - but if you don't have that opportunity then at least be sure to acknowledge the feeling of gratitude to yourself.
 

The second one is particularly important at this busy time of the year - to give ourselves the gift of time.   All too often we are dashing around doing the chores, working, and looking after our families to take the time to do something that is focussed on our own needs.   So from today set aside just 30 minutes each week to spend doing something that gives you pleasure - that's right be really selfish just once a week.   And if you don't have much money remember it can be something completely free like a walk in the fresh air away from the children - just as long as it brings you pleasure.
Enjoy practising these techniques regularly and you will soon notice a real positive difference in how you feel.
