Fear |

Most of us are frightened of something – even if we don’t like to admit it even to ourselves. Sometimes the fear is something we can live with and it doesn’t have much effect on our lives. For example, if you are scared of snakes and live in England you can probably manage to control and live with your fear very well. It might stop you going on exotic holidays but you probably reason that is something that you can quite happily live with.
On the other hand if you are scared of dogs it might be having a huge impact on your life. You probably have to think about your fear every time you go outside your house or office, just in case. It might even stop you visiting particular friend or relations if they have dogs of their own and you might also be worrying that your children are going to start copying your fear.
Now some fears are completely reasonable and are there for a very good reason. If there were a group of us in a room and the door opened and in walked a wild tiger that hadn’t eaten for a few days it would be completely reasonable for every single one of us to be frightened.
But if a group of us are in the same room and the door opens and in walks a well fed, friendly, purring cat and the majority of us are picking it up and having a cuddle whilst you are backing into a corner and shaking – then your fear is probably unreasonable.
Now that’s not to belittle your fear – and it is very real to you in that moment. But it is a sign that there is a reason why you have that fear whilst other people don’t and that something can be easily done to start letting go of it.
There are many ways to tackle phobias and fears – and it won’t surprise you that I believe that Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a simple and pain free way to start to do that. But I would urge you that rather than continuing to live around your fear for a moment longer – take a look at all of the options that are available to you and pick a method that appeals to you to start to deal with it as quickly as possible. Why would you continue to limit your life when there is something you can do to make it better?
