Feeling Happy |

The weather forecast tells me we are about to face another Arctic blast - more snow and ice to contend with. Whilst I think that the snow and ice looks lovely and pretty (from indoors) after a while it can easily begin to get us down. There's the cost of fuel to consider, how we're going to get to the shops for the Christmas shopping and indeed what food will be available once we get there. But all of this is outside of our control.
There are so many simple ways that we can take control and affect our own mood and start to encourage that feel good feeling from the inside. There is a whole science dedicated to it. Just Google “Positive Psychology” to find out more. Here are a couple of really easy things you can do regularly which it has been proven will have a positive impact on your mood:
Three Gifts
Get yourself a small notebook, and at the end of every day (just before bed) take a couple of minutes to look back and bring to mind three good things that happened that day. They don’t have to be big things – just hearing bird song or a conversation with a friend. Then write them down in the notebook.
This primes your brain to look for the positives in the day, by knowing that you’ll be trying to remember them in the evening. By tuning your mind in on the positives it diminishes your attention on the negatives.
Counting Chimneys
This one might sound odd, but it is much harder to feel unhappy while you are looking up. Obviously, don’t do this one when there is a danger of tripping up an uneven curbstone; but otherwise, give yourself an incentive to look up. There’s a reason why we say “you’re looking down” when someone seems unhappy.
So give one of these a go for the next week or so and see how much more positive you can feel – even in the cold. If you would like to book a Hypnotherapy Relaxation session here in Cheshunt or Enfield then give me a call.
