Free yourself from anxiety

About Me

Hello – I’m Brenda Cox and I am a cognitive hypnotherapist, coach and author.

I help people all around the world to break free of the cycle of negative thinking, anxiety and panic attacks and have been working full time as a therapist and coach since 2009.

I work mainly online via Skype or Zoom, and in some circumstances telephone coaching is also available.

The Story So Far

When I was younger, I suffered from anxiety and depression which led to panic attacks. This had a massive impact on my life and at one stage I was unable to leave the house for 6 months.

I had therapy and was able to return to education and then to work. But I obviously hadn’t dealt with the underlying issues as over the years the anxiety kept reappearing. I suffered bouts of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), emotional eating and unexplained pains.

Luckily, I discovered Cognitive Hypnotherapy and realised it didn’t have to be that way. I took control, learnt new ways to think and was able to let go of the constant voice of worry. This led to me wanting to share this knowledge with others and I decided to train as a cognitive hypnotherapist and coach.

Since this initial training, I have continued to learn more about the causes of anxiety and what can be done to help. Because I’m a firm believer that there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution I have continued to add other tools and ways of working to my toolkit. You can read more about them below.

A couple of years ago I wanted to find a way to help people suffering from anxiety who couldn't afford therapy. I also wanted to be able to give my clients a book containing details of the things we talked about in our sessions. So I wrote my book 'No Tigers No Lions - A practical guide to mastering your anxiety'.

If you are ready to have a free conversation about how I can help you to find a way towards your calmer and happier future - contact me.

My Qualifications and Training

Cognitive Hypnotherapist

I qualified as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist at the prestigious Quest Institute and set up my practice in Hertfordshire and in Harley Street, Central London. After many years helping people to deal with all types of anxiety and negative thinking I relocated to Essex.

Since qualifying as a cognitive hypnotherapist I have undertaken extensive further training including:

  • CBT Coaching
  • EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or Tapping).
  • Working with Depression.
  • EMI Plus or Eye Movement Integration. This is great for working with trauma and PTSD.
  • Confident Childbirth (hypno-birthing).
  • NLP Master Practitioner (Neuro-Linguistic Programming).

I am also a qualified Hypnotherapy Supervisor with the NCH (National Council for Hypnotherapy). This means I work with other hypnotherapists to support them in their work and to ensure that they are working safely and ethically.

Nice Words From Those I Have Worked With

NCP

I just wanted to let you know that I did it!! I flew to Florida and back again doing my breathing that you taught me and went to my special place if I needed to. On the flight home we had quite a bit of turbulence but I kept reminding myself that I had to balance out the negative and bring up the positive, my husband couldn’t believe how calm I was. I wanted to thank you once again it made my whole holiday a different, calm experience.

Things have been really good  and I haven't felt stressed in the car, apart from the odd flinch.  We have had quite few trips out including a day out with friends in Kent and all went well.

I can't remember the last time I actually thought of the accidents.  My husband has noticed how different I am in the car and the fact that we can now go out without me stressing about the trip ahead is brilliant.

I feel my confidence has been restored and am very grateful for your help.

Thank you very much for helping me with everything the last few months, I feel so much better than I did. I feel like I’ve got many new tools to help me with my anxiety thanks to you. It’s also nice to know that you’re also there if I ever need to come back in the future.

My flights to and from Vienna were a great success, I felt nothing!  I did try to conjure up the feelings I would normally have but nothing happened.  Thank you again!

I can't thank you enough for helping get my life back on track.  I am genuinely the happiest I have ever been.

Becoming proactive in the pursuit of controlling our anxiety – no having anxiety control us – enables us to live a fuller life. With useful exercises and plenty of author experiences to reassure, Brenda's book provides readers and sufferers alike a way to embrace their anxiety to get the most from life.

Insightful and informal – a reassuring read.

Brenda's book gives you lots of ways to control your anxiety, but it also contains so much more. I like the format which mixes the practical steps with information about what causes anxiety, real life examples and information from the author’s own experiences fighting anxiety and panic attacks. I also like the chapter summaries which bring each chapter together.

I found the explanation of why the book is called ‘No Tigers No Lions’ really useful. It helped me to understand that although my mind is feeling anxious and afraid, not everything I encounter is as dangerous as a tiger or lion.

I found it an easy read and I plan to read it again more slowly and revisit the sections that I particularly liked.
