Hypnotherapy – are changes permanent?

There’s an advert on TV at the moment for a well-known toothpaste for sensitive teeth.  In it the dentist says that people often notice a positive change when she recommends they use this toothpaste.  Then after a while they come back and tell her that the pain is back.  She asks if they are still using the toothpaste and they say ‘no’.  Her recommendation is to keep using the toothpaste.

Now, I’m not a dentist, and I know nothing about toothache and how to treat it.  For all I know this may be a clever marketing ploy – or it may not.

The reason why I mention it is I’m often asked by new clients if the work we do together will ‘last for ever’.  My answer to this, and to so many questions is ‘It depends’.

How does Cognitive Hypnotherapy help to make changes permanent?

Cognitive Hypnotherapy - learn how to weather life's stormsOne of the key things about Cognitive Hypnotherapy is we teach you the tools and techniques that you can use for the rest of your life in many different situations.  So whilst hypnotherapy may help you let go of your current specific problem I can’t guarantee that life will be plain sailing for ever.  If a new problem or situation arises I want to ensure that you have everything you need to weather the storm safely.

Another thing that we do in Cognitive Hypnotherapy is ‘future proof’ our work.  We use particular techniques and suggestion patterns (called WordWeaving) to embed the things that you want us to place in your unconscious mind.  These can be new ways of thinking, feeling, behaving, what you believe about yourself and the world around you – or all of them.

These 2 things together put you in a really good place for you to make permanent changes using hypnotherapy.

But is there a 100% guarantee for ever?  As I’ve found out myself in recent months – no, there isn’t.

My own personal experience:

I stopped doing things that I knew to do.  I stopped doing the little things that I know from experience lead to my own success and happiness.  It wasn’t until I looked back over about 6 months that I realised what I’d allowed to happen in my own life.  I’m not even sure why I stopped and took stock in that way – it might have been a conversation with a colleague, or a book I read.  It may have been my unconscious mind finally getting through to me.

The lesson that’s important for me to learn.  And something to help answer my question for my clients is …

Yes it will last forever.  You might lose sight of what you need to do or think occasionally.  Life will present you with ups and downs.  But you will always have exactly what you need within you to quickly get back on track.
